Duration: around 2 hours. The tour includes the guided tour of the archaeological area and the museum. In case the museum is closed the guided tour will regard just the archaeological area.
Frequency: every day except the 1st of January and the 25th of December.
Times of entrance: anytime from 09:00 to 16:00.
The Paestum museum is closed on the first and the third Monday of the month from 08:30 to 13:00.
Notes: earphones will be provided for groups larger than 10 participants for a better hearing of the explanation of the guide.
The tour can be personalised accordingly to the visitor’s requests.
Please note: the time relative to the beginning of the tour will be confirmed accordingly to the availability of the tickets of the museum.
The price of the tour includes: guide service with authorized guide of the Province of Naples, earphones for groups larger than 10 participants.
The price does NOT include: entrance ticket that will be purchased on the place directly from the visitors. Price for adults: 9,00 euro per person; European citizens from 18 to 24 years old get half ticket, 4,50 per person; people under than 18 years old of any nationality enter for free. The price of the ticket may change. The first Sunday of the month the entrance ticket of the Paestum archaeological park is free for all visitors.
The guide will assist the visitors with the entrance procedure and the check-in at the Archaeological Park.
Children: please do signal the presence of children younger than 12 years old in the note space of the reservation form. For the children older than 12 years old they have to reserve as Adults so that they can get the earphones.
Itinerary
Paestum was founded from the Greek around the 600 B.C and in the beginning was named Poseidonia, to honour Poseidon, the king of the sea to which the city was dedicated.
The city was declared World Heritage Site from UNESCO. Accompanied by our guide, you will admire the three Greek temples the most preserved in the world: the Temple of Era, the Temple of Neptune and the Temple of Cerere.
The Temple of Era dates is the most ancient of the three and dates back to 560 B.C.
The Temple of Neptune is the biggest and better preserved of the three. The Temple is builded with huge stones linked one to each other with simple dowels and without mortar; this building technique permitted the building to resist to the natural catastrophes occurred.
The Temple of Cerere is also called “the Athena Temple”, it was dedicated to the goddess of the war and the craftsmanship. It was placed on the highest peak of the city in the most panoramic point of the city and it dominated the whole area.
Inside the museum you will know the history of the city of the temples and know how the community was organized. In addition to vases, jugs and salt cellars it is also exposed a precious decoration that decorated the little temple of the sanctuary of Era.
